Solid timber and open fretwork share the work in this four-slot Japanese sword rack, built to hold katana and wakizashi in a tidy, balanced rhythm. Compact enough for a study or dojo yet generous in capacity, it lets stand and blades read together as one quiet composition.
The Piece
This Japanese wooden sword rack is designed for the compact, balanced display of several blades, with four slots suited to katana and wakizashi. Pierced decorative panels on the lower section introduce visual lightness while preserving structural strength.
Pierced-panel designs of this type reflect an architectural approach to sword furnishings, letting negative space play against solid wood. The gently arched top rail and stepped supports provide stable resting points for mounted blades, while the broad feet anchor the rack securely.
With a sword hanging width of approximately 46 cm, the rack offers practical capacity without excessive footprint. Its compact proportions and balanced form suit private collections, dojo interiors and tokonoma-inspired settings, where the swords and the stand together make up the visual composition.
