A matching jacket and skirt from Issey Miyake Fête, the house's playful pleated line, printed with ornate teacups in khaki and cream on black and edged with contrast piping.
The Piece
Issey Miyake Fête was launched as the cheerful, colour-led sister to Pleats Please, using the same garment-pleating method, in which pieces are cut and sewn oversize and then pleated whole under heat, but with bolder prints and more tailored shapes. The style codes on this set, IF74FD727 and IF74FG732, place it in the line's later years.
The jacket is cut like a slim shirt-jacket with a notched collar, a fly front and long sleeves, all finished with fine cream piping that frames the print. The skirt is a narrow column with a back slit, so the pair reads as a proper suit when worn together. The print is a repeat of decorative teacups and saucers rendered in khaki and cream over black, with a distorted, almost hand-drawn quality once the pleats open and close.
Like all heat-set pleated pieces it is weightless, crease-proof and ideal for travel; the pleats stretch with the body and spring back. Wear the two together for evening, or split them: the jacket over black trousers, the skirt with a plain knit.
