Shin Buddhist altar architecture distilled into a single object: a Honganji-style table of the 18-go class whose gilded hall form, with roofline, frieze and plinth, gathers candlelight and returns it as radiance. Never placed in service, it comes as unused old stock from long storage, ready for an altar or a display of ritual furnishing.
The Piece
This Honganji-style altar table in the Amida Hall format is rendered in a luminous gold field, designed to stabilize an altar's visual hierarchy and amplify low candlelight. Conceived as a miniature hall, it carries a strong roofline, framed frieze and grounded base, an altar architecture reduced to a concentrated object.
In Shin ritual furnishing the gold field works both practically and symbolically: it performs in low light while evoking the radiance associated with the Pure Land. The piece offers architectural authenticity at private-chapel scale, a gold surface that reads from a distance and rewards close viewing, and appeal across ritual furnishing, lacquer-and-gilding decorative art and sculptural display plinth.
