The ribbon that ties every orange box, untied and thrown across white silk: Hermès’s Vintage Bolduc design on a Pointu, the house’s long triangle of twill.

The Piece

Bolduc is the Hermès name for its signature ribbon, the one printed with the Duc carriage that closes every orange box. Vintage Bolduc gathers dozens of those ribbons in red, cobalt, emerald, lime and orange, lets them cross and knot over a white ground, and finishes them with a single bow.

The Pointu is a long, narrow triangle cut from silk twill, made to be knotted at the throat, wound twice around the neck or tied to a bag handle, where a carré would be too much. Look closely and each ribbon carries HERMÈS-PARIS and the carriage, with the full Hermès Paris signature set into the white field.

Measured flat: about 40 × 109.5 cm (15.7 × 43.1 in), with each long side 65 cm (25.6 in). Hand-rolled edges.

Condition

• Graded AB in Japan: light marks, creases and a few rubbed spots, shown in the close-up photographs; colours bright.
• One of the two sewn tags has been removed; the Made in France composition label remains.

Care label, twill weight, print registration, hand-rolled edges, signature and box are examined together and documented in Japan before dispatch.
