A Kelly 32 Retourne in the bright orange that is Hermès’s own colour, made in 1996 in Vache Gulliver, a smooth, supple calfskin the house no longer produces. It comes as a full set: box, dust bag, shoulder strap, lock, keys and clochette.

The Piece

The Kelly took its name from Grace Kelly, who carried hers in 1956 and made it the most famous handbag in the world. The Retourne version is sewn inside out, which gives softer edges and a more relaxed silhouette than the structured Sellier.

Vache Gulliver was used through the 1990s and has a fine, glossy grain that wears in gracefully. This example shows honest use, reflected in the price, and keeps every original accessory.

Condition

• Used overall, with marks, rubbing and some loss of shape.
• Rubbing at the corners and base studs; rubbing and cracking to the edge paint at the top and on the strap.
• The shoulder strap has some loss of shape and rubbing.
• Marks and rubbing inside; scratches and dulling on the hardware.

Authenticity & Care

Leather, saddle stitching, edge finish, blind stamp and box are examined together and documented in Japan before dispatch. Every piece carries the Japonista authenticity guarantee. Store it stuffed and upright in its dust bag; a specialist can refresh the edge paint and the leather.
