A Constance 3 Mini 18 Miroir in Ombré lizard, the natural scales shading from cream to smoky taupe, with the polished palladium H clasp, internal mirror and full Hermès set, stamped B for 2023.

The Piece

The Constance was designed in 1959 by Catherine Chaillet and named for the daughter she gave birth to on the day the first bag left the workshop. Its great signature is the H clasp, cast in metal and fixed across the flap, and the Mini 18 is the size that has become the most coveted of all: a small, structured shoulder bag that sits against the body like a piece of jewellery.

Ombré lizard is one of the most distinctive exotic finishes Hermès uses. The skin keeps its natural markings, the dark rings and chain patterns of the monitor lizard, and the tanning shades them from pale cream at the edges to a deep smoky taupe across the centre, so every bag is individual. On this example the rings line up cleanly across the flap and the back pocket.

The Miroir version adds a removable mirror in a dedicated pocket inside, alongside two gusseted pockets and two flat pockets in pale calf. The strap can be worn long across the body or doubled for the shoulder, and the palladium H closes with a satisfying click. It measures about 18 by 15 by 6 cm.

Made in 2023 and accompanied by its box, dust bag, booklet and a 2024 Japanese boutique card, it is a recent, well-documented example of one of the house’s most wanted exotics.

Condition

• Graded A in Japan: beautiful overall.
• Fine scratches on the H clasp, visible in the close-up photographs.
• Mirror still carries its protective film.
• Faint light rubbing inside, visible only on close inspection; no notable marks.
• The strap may hold a slight curve from storage.
• Lizard leather: the bag leaves Japan with a CITES export permit, which we obtain before dispatch (allow extra time); please confirm that your country or state permits import of lizard goods before ordering.
