A Birkin 25 in supple Swift calf, dyed a clear sunshine yellow with matching chèvre-tone interior and palladium hardware, in very good condition and complete with box, padlock, keys and clochette.
The Piece
The Birkin 25 is the size that has defined the past decade of Hermès collecting: small enough to carry as a day bag, large enough for the essentials, and consistently the hardest Birkin to obtain at a boutique. Swift, the house’s smooth, fine-grained calf, is the leather that shows colour most vividly, taking dye deep into the hide so that bright shades glow rather than sit on the surface.
This one is a saturated yellow, catalogued in Japan as Jaune Mangue, somewhere between ripe mango and buttercup. It is lined in the same yellow, so the bag opens onto one continuous colour, and the stitching is tonal throughout. Palladium hardware keeps the look fresh: the turn-lock, plaque, padlock, four base feet and the key in its yellow clochette.
Swift is softer than Togo or Epsom, so the 25 settles into a gentle, slightly slouched silhouette when carried and stands neatly when set down. Inside are one zipped pocket and one open pocket, with HERMÈS PARIS MADE IN FRANCE heat-stamped beneath the front strap. The bag measures about 25.5 by 20.5 by 13.5 cm.
A bright Birkin is the easiest way to make a neutral wardrobe sing, and yellow photographs better than almost any other colour. It is a joyful, collectible example in the most desirable size.
