Gianni Versace 1990s Six-Medallion Medusa Coin Bracelet with Greek Key Borders, Gold Tone, Made in Italy

Six bold Medusa medallions, each ringed with the Greek key, joined by ribbed bar links: the most emphatic form of the Gianni Versace coin bracelet, made in Italy at the height of the house’s golden years.

The Piece

Gianni Versace adopted the head of Medusa as his emblem in 1978, choosing a figure whose beauty was said to transfix anyone who looked upon her. Through the late 1980s and early 1990s that head, struck like an antique coin and framed by the meandering Greek key, became the core of his costume jewellery, worn on runways by the supermodels who defined the era.

This bracelet is the large-scale version of that idea. Six domed medallions, each about 2.7 cm across, carry a crisply modelled Medusa in high relief, surrounded by a beaded rim and a band of Greek key. They are linked by short ribbed bars that let the piece flex around the wrist, and it closes with a box clasp and safety catch, the clasp itself stamped with a further miniature Medusa.

At about 19.5 cm in wearable length it suits most wrists without feeling loose, and the scale of the medallions gives it a presence closer to a cuff than a chain. Worn alone it is a signature; stacked with a watch it is pure early-nineties Milan.
