Neceser Chanel vintage CC A01998, piel de caviar negra, herrajes en tono dorado, circa 2002

The Chanel vanity in its most wanted form: black caviar leather, a large stitched CC and a gold-tone zip, made around 2002. Barely used and still with its dust bag, this A01998 has the crisp pebbled grain and firm shape that collectors look for.

The Piece

Chanel’s vanity case began as a practical cosmetics box and became a bag in its own right, carried by its short top handle or tucked inside a tote. The A01998 is the classic tall format, with a wraparound zip that opens the whole top and an open pocket inside.

Caviar leather, Chanel’s grained and lacquered calfskin, is the reason these cases age so well: it resists scuffs and holds its form, so a well-kept example from the early 2000s still stands square on a dressing table today. The stitched CC on the front is the house monogram in its quietest form.
