Hammered gold-tone ovals with a polished CC rising from the centre, from Chanel’s Spring 1994 collection. Clip-on fittings, made in France.

The Piece

The contrast between the textured ground and the smooth interlocking Cs is typical of Karl Lagerfeld’s early 1990s jewellery, when the gilding was still finished by hand.

At about 31 × 24 mm they are substantial without being heavy, and sit neatly on the lobe.
