A lustrous satin teddy from Hedi Slimane’s Celine in cream, royal blue and red, scattered front and back with hand-finished sequinned stars, like a souvenir jacket from an imaginary American tour.
The Piece
Hedi Slimane has always drawn on rock iconography, and at Celine the teddy jacket became his canvas for it: wool and leather for winter, fluid satins for summer. The satin versions, in rayon with a high sheen, borrow from souvenir and tour jackets, and this one leans into Americana with stars and stripes rendered in sequins and rib.
The body is divided into a cream yoke over a royal blue lower section, joined in a deep V, with contrasting red satin sleeves. Red sequinned stars outlined in white are set across the front and back. The rib at collar, cuffs and hem is striped in red, white and blue, and the jacket closes with cream snaps. It is fully lined in acetate.
The fit is easy and slightly dropped through the shoulder, finishing at the hip on the rib. It is light enough for spring evenings and carries a whole outfit on its own; worn with black denim and boots it becomes pure Slimane.
The season of this particular design is not confirmed, but it belongs to the Hedi Slimane years at Celine. Embellished satin teddies are produced in small numbers and are rarely seen in this condition.
