The Celine Classic Biker, reference 2E158599E: Hedi Slimane’s signature double rider in black calfskin with silver hardware and the slim, high-armholed cut he made famous.
The Piece
When Hedi Slimane arrived at Celine in 2018, he brought the leather rider with him, and the Classic Biker is the house’s permanent expression of it. Season after season it has stayed close to the shape he first refined at Dior Homme: narrow shoulders, high armholes, a short body and sleeves long enough to stack at the wrist.
This example is cut from a smooth black calfskin with a fine natural grain. It has notched lapels with snap studs, epaulettes, an asymmetric front zip with heavy Celine Paris pullers, a slanted zipped chest pocket, two zipped hand pockets, a flapped coin pocket and a belted waist with a pin buckle. The cuffs zip, and the back carries curved panelling with zips at the hips. It is lined in cupro and cotton, with the white Celine Paris label at the neck, and made in Italy.
The fit is slim, true to Slimane: 46 cm across the chest, 42.5 cm across the shoulder and 55 cm long, so the tagged 44 suits a slender men’s frame or a women’s small to medium.
Few jackets from the current luxury houses hold their value and relevance as steadily as this one, because the design does not change with the seasons. It is a jacket designed to be worn for years and to soften around its owner.
