Chaqueta vaquera tipo trucker de patchwork de kimono y obi Broke City Gold × COTE MER, dos cremalleras expuestas, única

A deep-indigo denim trucker dismantled and rebuilt as assemblage: obi brocade erupts across the back between twin exposed zippers, the sleeves fracture into asymmetric kimono and graphic panels, and a faded gold "BROKE CITY GOLD" inscription crowns the yoke. It is a defining form of a Tokyo project that put kimono on denim at the center of its language.

The Piece

The conventional trucker silhouette has been taken apart and rebuilt into wearable textile art. From the front the jacket still reads as denim outerwear: a pointed turn-down collar, two pointed chest-pocket flaps, vertical seam construction, a row of aged metal buttons and the cropped, squared proportions of a classic trucker. The denim is washed to a saturated medium-to-deep blue, with tonal variation around seams, pocket edges, collar and hem giving more depth than a flat modern indigo. The red pocket tab and Type III-style front suggest a Levi's base.

The back is the visual nucleus. A large rectangular patchwork field begins below the yoke and runs almost to the hem, its center a red-and-gold floral medallion on black surrounded by fragments in green, orange, violet, cream and metallic gold. Two long silver-tone zippers on black tape frame the panel; their pullers sit low in the textile field and the open tails hang free below the jacket, exaggerating its vertical movement and turning the mechanics of assembly into part of the design. Above, the faded gold BROKE CITY GOLD lettering sits directly on the denim yoke like the title of an artwork, an urban English name floating over fragments of formal Japanese textile.

Several fragments show the dense metallic weave of formal obi brocade: stylized flowers, hexagonal crests, radiating floral medallions, scrolling foliage, geometric bands, fan-like forms and layered patterns. The palette moves quickly, from gold-and-ivory florals and vermilion-and-cream geometry to black grounds with red and gold ornament, bright green and silver angular forms, copper and orange woven florals, violet satin with metallic thread and pale olive chrysanthemum-like motifs. Some patches sit in clean rectangles; others meet their neighbors at unexpected angles, like a textile archive compressed into one garment.

The sleeves are built from several textile systems and differ left to right. Upper sections carry ornate kimono and obi brocade in gold, rust, black, cream and muted florals; broad black forearm panels are printed with oversized silver COTÉ MER lettering; lower panels add monochrome Japanese typography, graphic imagery, brush-like marks and occasional yellow or blue accents. One arm emphasizes gold circular ornament and green geometry, the other black floral brocade, copper leaves and stronger branding, and both finish in green rib-knit cuffs with pale stripes.

The construction is labor-intensive: fragments selected for pattern, color, scale and sheen were cut, arranged and stitched across the denim, the sleeves shaped through curved and straight joins, and the back assembled separately before being integrated and bordered with zipper hardware. Small irregularities in alignment, thread tension and patch shape distinguish it from printed imitation patchwork. The jacket is most consistent with the late-2010s Japanese remake and Harajuku streetwear movement and should be regarded as a contemporary Japanese designer remake rather than an antique or conventional vintage denim jacket.

Condition

• Good pre-owned condition, with signs of previous wear and handmade reconstruction consistent with the garment's deconstructed character.
• The denim shows natural fading, tonal variation and light surface wear, particularly around seams, pocket edges, collar and hem.
• The brocade shows minor rippling, scattered thread movement and occasional surface irregularities expected of reclaimed woven textiles.
• Some raw edges, loose thread ends, extended zipper tapes and irregular seams are intentional; light fraying is visible near parts of the lower denim and reconstructed areas.
• The printed sleeve graphics remain strong and legible, and the metallic brocades keep vivid gold, copper, red, green and ivory color.
• Metal buttons and long exposed zippers are present; no major structural tear or extensive loss is apparent in the photographed areas. The photographs form an important part of the condition record.

Broke City Gold

Broke City Gold has been documented as a creative project associated with the musician K.A.N.T.A. and the designer Norio Sato, with the kimono-applied denim jacket identified as one of its defining forms. The project described its kimono jackets as handmade and one of a kind rather than standardized production, and was documented in Tokyo fashion media in the late 2010s, including street-style appearances in denim and kimono jackets and collaborations within Japan's sneaker, music and street-fashion culture.

COTÉ MER continues to describe its kimono-remake garments as handmade one-of-one pieces made by transforming vintage Japanese textiles into contemporary streetwear. The exact year of this jacket is not established, but its dual branding, graphics, oversized zippers and dense kimono reconstruction align closely with the project's documented direction.

Fit, Styling and Storage

Measurements were taken flat and may vary slightly with positioning, patchwork tension and the natural structure of the denim; compare them with a jacket that fits comfortably, particularly if layering over knitwear or a sweatshirt. The silhouette is cropped and boxy, with substantial visual weight through the sleeves and back. The blue front anchors black trousers, wide-leg denim, cargo pants or minimalist tailoring, while earth tones, black, olive, indigo and muted neutrals, or colors pulled from the patchwork such as vermilion, lime, violet and copper, complement the metallic textiles.

Because denim, metallic brocade, printed cloth and rib knit react differently to moisture, friction and heat, professional specialist cleaning is strongly recommended; repeated machine washing could distort the patchwork, damage metallic threads or cause dye transfer. Store on a broad padded hanger, avoid prolonged direct sunlight and let the jacket air after wear rather than sealing it in plastic.
