neon-genesis-evangelion-unit-01-completed-partwork-diorama
Neon Genesis Evangelion Unit-01 Completed Partwork Diorama Statue, Hand-Assembled with LED Illumination

This is not a toy or a factory-sealed figure but a completed Japanese partwork build of Evangelion Unit-01, assembled over about two years into a single illuminated display object closer in spirit to a studio maquette or exhibition prop. Its internal LEDs are tested and functioning, and it stands on an integrated lit base.

The Piece

Partwork Evangelion builds occupy a distinct stratum of Japanese collecting culture: serialized, long-form projects for committed fans willing to trade convenience for intimacy with the object, where completion is itself a curatorial act. This example has crossed that threshold. Hand-assembled and privately completed over roughly two years, it now exists as a finished, large-format standing figure with integrated base and lighting, no longer modular in spirit but architectural, designed to be seen rather than re-boxed, and suited to an interior or a collection as a centerpiece.

Evangelion Unit-01 is more than a protagonist mecha; it is the visual embodiment of rebellion, trauma and uncontrolled evolution. Its purple armor marks it as an anomaly within NERV's system; the neon green highlights suggest bio-energy, life and instability; the horned head silhouette echoes oni, demons and the wrathful guardians of Buddhist art; and the illuminated chest core reads as the soul engine where mother, memory and violence coexist. In the series' visual language Unit-01 is the Eva that breaks containment, devouring Angels and acting without permission, and the statue preserves that tension between elegance and menace, divinity and loss of control.

The figure is built from mixed plastics over a modular internal frame with internal wiring, and the integrated display platform provides both visual grounding and electrical stability. The assembly is by hand, with visible seams consistent with partwork builds: it is not factory-perfect, and its appeal lies in completion, scale and presence rather than surface flawlessness.

Neon Genesis Evangelion (1995) permanently altered anime's relationship with psychology, religion and narrative structure, turning mecha from heroic machinery into existential mirrors. Large-format Evangelion objects were historically studio assets, event-only displays or costly imports, and completed partwork builds survive only rarely, since many remain unfinished, are dismantled, or are discarded during moves because of their size. A fully assembled, intact and illuminated Unit-01 at this scale is therefore an uncommon survivor, of interest to Evangelion completists, interior designers, and studios, cafes or concept spaces in need of a singular focal object.

Details

Franchise: Neon Genesis Evangelion

Model: Evangelion Unit-01, completed partwork build / display model

Origin: Japanese partwork build series, privately completed over approx. 2 years

Material: Mixed plastics; modular internal frame; internal wiring and LEDs

Color: Purple armor with neon green highlights

Format: Large-format standing figure with integrated display base and lighting

Electronics: Internal LEDs tested and functioning

Condition

Completed build with visible hand-assembly marks and minor surface wear; lighting confirmed functional.

Visible seams consistent with partwork construction; not factory-perfect.

Stability varies by pose because of articulated balance points; careful collector handling is required.

Authenticity & Care

A hand-assembled completed build from a Japanese Evangelion partwork series rather than a factory-finished statue; the publisher of the series is not named.
