Japonista Sole: Geisha Pop Jika Tabi

Submitted by on May 13, 2010 – 8:43 amNo Comment

The series here hopes to showcase the loudness of the geisha’s appeal to the commoner. With her intricately embroidered kimono and a rich combination of ornaments and colors dazzling in her presence、 it is no wonder how people are attracted to her unparalleled grace and serenity. The tabis belonging here captures the image and colors of the geisha’s aura as the flowery hawaiian motifs are carefully chosen to match the exciting color palette that we have on offer.

In addition, we would like to intoduce a new concept called Yamato Nadeshiko and referring or quoting from Wikipedia:

Kenkyūsha’s New Japanese-English Dictionary (5th ed., 2003) translates Yamato-nadeshiko: “a Japanese woman (with all the traditional graces); an ideal Japanese woman.” Daijirin (3rd ed., 2006) defines it: “1 ナデシコの別名。2 日本女性の清楚な美しさをほめていう語。”, “1. another name for Dianthus superbus. 2. A figure of speech for the beauty of Japanese women who are neat and tidy.”

Also known as an ideal Japanese woman, it revolves around acting for the benefit of the family and following instructions or acting in the best interest of patriarchal authority figures. Virtues include: loyalty, domestic ability, wisdom, and humility.

During World War II, the idea of Yamato Nadeshiko was influenced by war-time propaganda. A Yamato Nadeshiko should be able to endure all the pain and poverty of life for her husband (a soldier) and the country, and should always be ready to fight with naginata or tae yari and to be ready to die at any time, for her country or to keep her chastity. However, as opposed to being a particularly feminine characteristic, gyokusai, or to give up life for the war, was a duty expected from all who wished themselves to be considered a Japanese citizen.

With this concept inspiring us to seek the meaning of the ever evolving image of the graceful Japanese woman personified in this phrase, we are dedicating this series to the contemporary Yamato Nadeshiko residing in ourselves whether we are Japanese or not. Everybody has that finesse that has to be discovered and pampered.

Bewilder and behold!

カラフルに染まった足袋に更に鮮やかな花柄を組み合わせた足袋です。可愛らしく、鮮やかに足元を彩って、周囲の目を惹きつけるデザインとなっています

Nara Jika Tabi

As mysterious as the land and cradle of Buddhism in Japan, the Nara Jika Tabi is designed to give you the peace of mind and solace that your weary and tired urban soul is looking for. The dark and meditative impression gives you a rather intelligent, deep and smart image that exudes with an incredible power aura that stigmatizes the humbling image of the great Buddha. Harvest your inner power and you will be rewarded with long and a healthy life.

Fukuoka Jika Tabi

The easy-go-lucky atmosphere in Tenjin Fukuoka does not fail to catch the attention of the busy-walking Tokyoites when one visits the town. No wonder, why people in Southern Japan feels less stress due to the fact that people are trying to enjoy and take things slowly at time. Add the great tasting Hakata ramen to that and you will feel that you will be getting a purple day to make you feel light and happy. Cute and crispy color to feed your admirers’ eyes.

Osaka Jika Tabi

As lively and bubbly or rather boisterious atmosphere of Osaka. This model catches the feel and vibrancy of the Osaka-jins in their normal day to day lifestyle and rituals, truly unique and full of “genki vibes”.

Hokkaido Jika Tabi

Hokkaido is not only known for its ice chilly weather in the winter but also for its very “kimochi-ii” summers which is equivalent the the normal spring and autumn weather. And images are filled with landscapes and fields of sunflowers just beneath the blue skies. Where is red? That is the relaxed feel one gets when you stroll by the wide sprawling fields all over. Smile! Whatever.
